How many mg is 40 units of semaglutide? (and 20, 10, 25…)

Units measure liquid, not drug. 40 units is 0.4 mL — and how much semaglutide is in 0.4 mL depends entirely on the vial. Find your concentration along the top, read across.

40 units of semaglutide is 0.4 mg at 1 mg/mL, 1 mg at 2.5 mg/mL, 2 mg at 5 mg/mL, 4 mg at 10 mg/mL. The sum is units ÷ 100 × mg/mL.

How many mg is 40 units of semaglutide?

At 1 mg/mL, 0.4 mg. At 2.5 mg/mL, 1 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 2 mg. At 10 mg/mL, 4 mg. 40 units is 0.4 mL. At 2.5 mg/mL — the most common compounded strength — that's 1 mg, the third step of the ladder. At 5 mg/mL it's 2 mg (the Ozempic maximum). At 10 mg/mL it's 4 mg, well above the 2.4 mg top of the Wegovy schedule: if the arithmetic gives you that, stop and check the label before you inject.

How many mg is 20 units of semaglutide?

At 1 mg/mL, 0.2 mg. At 2.5 mg/mL, 0.5 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 1 mg. At 10 mg/mL, 2 mg. 20 units is 0.2 mL: 0.5 mg at 2.5 mg/mL, the second step, and the number a lot of people remember from their first months. At 5 mg/mL it's 1 mg; at 10 mg/mL, 2 mg.

How many mg is 10 units of semaglutide?

At 1 mg/mL, 0.1 mg. At 2.5 mg/mL, 0.25 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 0.5 mg. At 10 mg/mL, 1 mg. That's 0.1 mL of liquid; the milligrams follow the concentration.

How many mg is 25 units of semaglutide?

At 1 mg/mL, 0.25 mg. At 2.5 mg/mL, 0.625 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 1.25 mg. At 10 mg/mL, 2.5 mg. That's 0.25 mL of liquid; the milligrams follow the concentration.

How many mg is 50 units of semaglutide?

At 1 mg/mL, 0.5 mg. At 2.5 mg/mL, 1.25 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 2.5 mg. At 10 mg/mL, 5 mg. That's 0.5 mL of liquid; the milligrams follow the concentration.

How many mg is 30 units of semaglutide?

At 1 mg/mL, 0.3 mg. At 2.5 mg/mL, 0.75 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 1.5 mg. At 10 mg/mL, 3 mg. That's 0.3 mL of liquid; the milligrams follow the concentration.

Why the same units can be a normal dose or a dangerous one

Because the units never change and the vial does. People work out "my dose is 50 units" in month two, draw 50 every week, and then a vial arrives at a different concentration — and 50 units is now twice or four times the milligrams. The mg dose is the thing that stays fixed. The units are what that dose happens to look like in this vial. Re-do the sum whenever a new vial arrives, from the label, every time.

Going forward instead — milligrams to units — is one page per dose: 0.25 mg · 0.5 mg · 1 mg · 1.7 mg · 2.4 mg. The whole ladder: the semaglutide chart. Units to mL with no drug involved: here.
